| Overview: Planning Your Visual Arts Residency
To help you plan your program, you will work with a staff member at your local Big Thought/Young Audiences chapter. He or she will help you get prepared, guide you through the program, and answer all of your questions via telephone and email and arrange planning meetings as necessary.
To insure a smooth transition to the residency and a comprehensive experience for your students, we offer a number of resources for program planning and preparation, including: teacher orientation, teacher/visual arts resident pre-planning meetings, visual arts curriculum, and permission forms.
Visual Arts Residency Planning Checklist
| • |
Teacher Orientation:
A brief introductory session takes place with school staff. During this session, a Make a Connection Thru Art program staff member outlines the program features, answer questions, and discuss scheduling requirements for your school. |
| • |
Planning Meeting with the Resident Artist:
Participating teachers and the artist who will host the Make a Connection Thru art residency meet briefly to plan the event. In this meeting you can plan and discuss curriculum needs as well as relay specific information about your class and the special needs of your students. |
| • |
Permission Forms:
Information letters and permission forms are provided by the Make a Connection Thru Art for distribution to parents and guardians. All permission forms must be returned before the start of these activities. |
| • |
Classroom Time:
Participating teachers confirm a time to schedule the residency in the classroom. These sessions should not conflict with students’ other school activities, and should be planned in a way that ensures that participating teachers will be in the classroom at all times to handle classroom management should the need arise. |
